Bio

Sonia Mokhtari

French American composer and creative audio designer, writing music and sound for films, games and apps.

30+film & series scores
100+festival selections
8festival awards
25+video games
6game & app studios
15+years composing

Sonia grew up between two musical languages, classical and jazz, and studied both at the conservatories of Vienne and Lyon. That mix still drives her sound today: orchestral writing blended with electronic textures, and whichever instrument the idea needs, from piano and guitar to bass, ukulele or drums.

On screen, she has scored features, shorts, web series and documentaries, from Kintsukuroi and Max: Shadow of Apocalypse, a feature with more than 100 festival selections, to the TV series Mentir c'est mourir. Her scores have won eight festival awards, from India to Chile and France.

In games, she leads audio on Zynga Poker and Game of Thrones Slots, worked on two Sims 4 expansion packs at Maxis/EA, and has designed sound for Meta, VGW, Calm and more than 15 TutoTOONS titles. Her favourite puzzle is adaptive music: a score that listens to the player and changes with every move. In 2026, she shared that experience as a speaker at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco.

She also teaches the next generation as Professor of Technology Applied Composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her heroes? Ravel and Debussy, John Williams and Michel Legrand, Nobuo Uematsu and Winifred Phillips.
